Gold-tone karay on a stand – bangle size guide for Pakistan

If you've ever ordered bangles online and had them stuck at your knuckles — or sliding off your wrist — this guide is for you. Pakistani churi sizes look cryptic (2.4? 2.6? 2.8?) but they're simple once you know what the numbers mean.

What churi sizes actually mean

The size is the inner diameter of the bangle in inches, written as inches and sixteenths. So size 2.6 means 2 and 6/16 inches. In millimetres:

  • 2.2 — about 54 mm — small hands, teens
  • 2.4 — about 57 mm — slim hands
  • 2.6 — about 60 mm — the most common size for Pakistani women
  • 2.8 — about 64 mm — broader hands
  • 2.10 — about 67 mm — extra large

How to measure at home (no tools needed)

Bring your thumb and little finger together, as if slipping on a bangle. Measure around the widest part of your hand (across the knuckles) with a measuring tape or a piece of string. Divide that measurement by 3.14 — that's the bangle diameter you need. Or simpler: take a bangle that already fits you well and measure its inner width with a ruler.

If you're between sizes

For rigid metal bangles and karay, go up a size — comfort beats snug. For adjustable or openable karay, the size matters less, which makes them safer to gift.

Buying bangles as a gift?

Size 2.6 fits most Pakistani women, so it's the safe default when you can't ask. Or sidestep the size question entirely with a jewellery gift hamper that combines bangles with earrings and accessories.
